We as Indians are God fearing human beings, Spiritually inclined and celebrating all the festivals with utmost enthusiasm and flavor.  The trend of passing the culture and heritage from one family generation to the other is slowly declining. The fast paced life, pressure and stress can be a reason? What do you think?

However, personally for me its a mere excuse to label – the fact stands clear and loud; am not efficient enough to manage my time, work and family.  Acceptance has not yet developed and with time we are not ready to change. If you think deeply, as a person you have not changed. You are getting dragged into this fast pace demanding life. Like a puppet you are dancing on the tunes of your boss or your company responsibilities. You are acting as per the situation needs. Let me tell bluntly you are a bad actor. 

You as your own ‘self’ is no longer living! You do not have ownership on yourself.  We are ashamed to accept YES, I am inefficient to manage my life. We immediately label it across – on traffic, work pressure, stress, pollution, food, family problems, karma etc etc

Love & Luck or Luck & Love

We love playing with words and have something in-store as a lucky charm. I too have a lucky charm :P.  Need of a shoulder!

Lets not get into the in-depth of the issues, reasons and justifications. Its one of those factors which needs to be tackled tactfully. This is not the case with everyone, however many of us are in this phase of life. Unclear, confused, depressed, lonely and helpless – yet have a BIG FAT EGO.

Learn to change with time, evolve yourself with the demands. If we learn to do so, then our culture, heritage and family life would blossom. Even if time demands you to have nuclear family for job. It would not burn your heart permanently. As you are evolving with time. Once this is cultivated, distance is mere a number. 

Start practicing yoga, meditation and spend time with yourself. Take out two hours of pure dedicated time of your day for this. These will help you to keep your body-mind-soul synchronized.  Most of us do it and yet are not able to feel the difference. In this case and to everyone – You have to feel it and do it with dedication. Don’t mix it with other duties of your life. Do not compromise and for once be honest to yourself. You need to cultivate strong determination and have devotion.  If done correctly then you would be able to manage stress, obesity, work pressure, enjoy family relationship, have healthy social life and gracefully carry forward the culture and heritage. There are numerous positive spill overs.

The best is; once you learn to control your mind – your life would be in your control.

Once you start, within a week to three months [depending upon person to person] you can automatically feel the difference. Be honest! Let me tell you, Honesty is priceless. Every Tom, Dick and Harry doesn’t have this! Rest its your choice – you are the boss.

‘Self’ + Defense – The need of the hour!

The Anand Koti team has been conducting self-defense workshops for several years now, and we too have discovered a lot of things from our learners and their personal experiences. This is why we believe and have incorporated meditation, breathing and ergonomics along with self defense to help of our individual body; lets not forget  all of these requires the power of our mind. If we don’t think precisely under unexpected circumstances then we cannot guide our body in an accurate manner to strike back.

So every time when we organize a self defense workshop we make sure that we interact with all the participants on a personal level. This is because we want to get rid of any sort of psychological inhibitions they might have, which will automatically help them become comfortable and confident. We urge all our participants to ask questions and share stories so that we can grow together as a gender friendly community as well as improve our combating techniques and methods.

Recently we received an opportunity to conduct a self-defense workshop for working women. This led us to explore some beautiful insights. One of the greatest take away from the feedback session was that many learners were overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge that could be learnt under just an hour. They were thrilled by how the issue of women safety can be tackled with a number of practical and effective skills.

During the response session we also found an interesting piece of information about how women carry pepper sprays and Swiss knives to deal with such unprecedented situations. And there is nothing wrong with that, but as much as we need weapons to protect us, we need to be aware of the fact that our bodies are weapons too. All one needs to do is to learn certain fundamental skills that can help anyone during troubled times.

Your Ultimate Weapon – Self Defense

If there would be one word to describe the situation in world today it would definitely be ‘unpredictable.’ We are living in the 21st century, still fighting for equality of genders and freedom to make our own choices. But the most beautiful aspect of this situation is the fact that our struggle comprises of the most extraordinary women and men. Our ability to think differently and to unite for a shared conviction is our strength.

But we still have a long journey to make!

One of the prime hurdles of this resistance is the fact that some people choose to respond to our beliefs through cruelty and aggression. And unfortunately the most common scenario we observe in such conditions is violence against women. According to the latest data by the National Crime Records Bureau, 2015, a decrease of 3.1% in crimes against women has been observed, as compared to the 2014 statistics. This 3.1% is an indicator that we still have lots of work to do, and a myriad of obstacles to overcome. The most recent incident of Bengaluru’s mass molestation during New Year’s Eve was an outrageous example about the intensity of crimes against women in India.

The question is what can be done to ensure the safety women?

Apart from observing strict legal laws and strong surveillance setup by the administration, on an individual level we have to use our bodies as weapons.

That’s Right! Self Defense!
So, why is self defense important?

An education in self defense can introduce you to a variety of situations that can occur and motivating experiences of survivors as well. The most significant reason to study self defense is to achieve a sense of self-confidence and mental stability during uncertain times. We often panic, freeze and stop thinking when we are under a state of being attacked. It is a major rule to remember that defending ourselves does not only require physical strength but also intellectual and tactical skills. If the assailant is brawny, there are number of ways you can tackle him/ her with. It’s always mind over matter.

If you practice religiously self defense can not only lead to a fitter body but also to the virtue of self discipline. During insecure conditions your training will always be able to provide you with a sense of direction and clarity. It will teach you to be agile and a smart problem solver. It will guide you to trust your instincts and transform you into a viscerally aware person.

The best part about learning self defense is that you can always utilize it if some other person happens to be in danger. The amazing feature of the training is that it does not only make you self reliant but also alters you into a better person.

And to help you get started the Anand Koti Team is conducting Self Defense Workshops to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day by promoting women’s safety. These workshops are a unique amalgamation of martial arts and spirituality. The purpose is to introduce women to techniques and methods that will help them function more positively in their everyday life. The workshops provides insights and trains for better ergonomics resulting in lowering of body pain and better body posture. An amazing platform to learn as well as discuss and share crisis of security.

The Self Defense Workshops are conducted by Mr Anand Koti, a skilled martial artist himself with 19 years of practice. Mr Koti has positively impacted the lives of women and children through his amazing non-profit endeavor The Colorss Foundation.  For the past 11 years he has been imparting knowledge about martial arts, and this year he continues his commendable effort for shaping a better and a secure society.

Respecting woman – is it your cup of Tea?  

Womanhood or otherwise motherhood is considered to be the greatest in Indian society. It’s the woman who gives birth to a new life. It’s her unconditional love of absorbing all the pains and burden of her loved ones, to make their life easier. After all a human being, the multitasking woman does require time to release her stress and make her reflexes super-fast.  Forget others – I as a man, would always have high regards and respect to the womanhood. She is the creator and the irony of life! She is the most abused.

The global statistics that talks about the crime against womanhood is at least disturbing me. 

Can you better the condition of your women? Then there will be hope for your well-being. Otherwise you will remain as backwards as you are now. – Swami Vivekananda

The Indian society is designed in such a way that the women generally does’t not get enough time for herself. She can’t even think of having time for her own hobbies or even think of having leisure break from her busy schedule. However there has always been those who have fought out of the system! The womanhood has always been subjected of emotional – verbal and physical assaults. The statistics speaks in volumes. The heart sinks and mind fails to understand why? 

Being workaholic the restlessness within made me take an action.  As a trained martial artist and a social entrepreneur. I thought of designing a  curriculum which is an amalgamation of self-defense and meditation.  Curriculum makes an effort to equip the participants with the needful tricks, techniques and methods to payback any shit from anyone!  We keep in mind the life-style, the available time, situations, surroundings and most important the human mind of the participants! These workshops have got a flavor of meditation and spirituality attached to it. This has helped them to a great extent.

Our self-defense workshops gives the provision to learn 4-6 self-defense techniques in around 2.5-3 hours. We constantly evolve the workshops based on the participant requirements, their physical capacity and ability. Our idea is to make sure that none of their limitations act as a hurdle in their training. We have got couple of differently flavored workshops as per the need of the individual and group. I am really happy to write down that we have been able to train more than 900 girls and woman and the count has been going up. The feedback has been encouraging and its just helping us grow and introduce more and more tricks and methods to train the womanhood for betterment.
